The Thirsty Moose Taphouse – Exeter, New Hampshire

4.5

We arrived at The Thirsty Moose early on a Saturday night- and glad we did.  There was a 45 minute wait and we were instructed to wait in an awkward area near where they were making pizza.  The bar is long and loaded with Craft beers with tables pushed together behind it in tight quarters to maximize space.  The walls appear to be covered in whatever giveaways the beer vendors had when they opened- and there was nothing exciting or even connected to the name which was fine, but they could do better.

The crowd seemed happy and there was a nice buzz to the place, and things seemed to be operating smoothly.  We were seated within 45 minutes at a table behind the bar.  It was comfortable enough- but still a bit tight.

Wings & Tenders at The Thirsty Moose

Following drink orders, we ordered hot boneless buffalo wings and hickory smoked double jumbo bone in Teriyaki chicken wings.  Both were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of heat and flavor.  While both were very good- the bone-in smoked wings were exceptional- smokey, juicy and flash fried perfectly.  It should be noted, I’m not typically a fan of a jointed wing- but I’ll come back for these.

Main Courses

After with our appetizers, we moved to the Rocky Burger with cheddar, BBQ Sauce, Ranch & Onions Rings, A pulled pork sandwich with American cheese, red onion & pickles on a toasted brioche bun and an order of beer battered fish and chips.

The burger was cooked perfectly, as was the bacon and onion rings on it and seasoned nicely.  Waffle fries were hot and seasoned nicely as well.

In addition, the BBQ sandwich was a stand out- very flavorful and the toasted brioche bun and red onion and pickles were the perfect choices.  Last but not least, The beer battered fish and chips was made with fresh fish and a delicious beer battered crust- also cooked perfectly in nice, clean oil.

Finally, Our server was pleasant and knowledgeable and seemed to show up always at the right time.  We left fat and happy.

This is a place I will return to and update again.
